  1. “The availability of good medical care tends to vary inversely with the need for it in the population served.” Julian Tudor Hart, The inverse care law, The Lancet, 1971. A balance scale tips: the side labelled Need is heavy, the side labelled Care is light.
  2. General practice can make a real difference to who gets care, how it is delivered, and the outcomes patients experience.
  3. The Fairer Practice Toolkit: over 100 practical, evidence-informed actions, grouped by theme.
  4. Each action belongs to a theme: Access and Flexibility, Advocacy and Policy, Care for Focus Patients, Continuity of Care, Digital Inclusion, Team Education, Health Literacy and Education, Health Needs Assessment, Multidisciplinary Team Approaches, Minoritised Ethnic Communities, Addressing Missingness, Networks of Support, Research, Addressing Stigma and Discrimination, Structural Competence, Trauma-Informed and Enabled Care, Values and Behaviours and Team Wellbeing. Each action also belongs to a tier.
  5. Start where you are. Four tiers, from core first steps to leading the way. Foundation: core actions for every practice. Engaging: need more planning and team involvement. Achieving: equity built into routine practice. Leading: innovation and system leadership.
  6. Clear, practical actions. Each one explains what to do, why it matters, and ways to start. Example: Inclusive registration, a Foundation action in the Access and Flexibility theme.
  7. Track your progress. Update the status and add a note. Your notes build an evidence trail. The note box reminds you not to include any patient-identifiable information.
  8. See it all in one place. Your dashboard shows progress by tier. Colleagues join your practice with a code.
  9. Free for anyone working in UK general practice.
  10. Better care for the patients who need it most. The scale comes level.
  11. Fairer Practice Tracker. Sign up at fairerpractice.org.uk. An independent companion to the RCGP’s Fairer Practice Toolkit. Not an RCGP website.
